NEWTOWNARDS LENDS SUPPORT TO DRUMCREE Newtownards District once again put its support for Portadown District No.1 and their stand at Drumcree Parish Church on show as they joined with the Portadown brethren on their February 9th 2003 march to police lines. A bus from Newtownards, carrying the Grand Master of England, Bro Ron Bather, and another from Bangor District No.18 made their way to Drumcree Church for Rev. Pickering's Sunday morning service before joining Portadown Orangemen on their weekly march from the church to the bridge where they were stopped from passing by the PSNI. Newtownards and Bangor District standards led the march down Drumcree Road to police lines where Bro. David Jones of Portadown District asked the officer in charge to remove himself and his men from the road and allow the parade to return to Carlton Street Orange Hall, where they set out from on July 5 1998. He refused. Prayers at the bridge were lead by Bro. Greenald of Newtownards before the parade returned back up the hill where it was met by Portadown District Master, Harold Gracey. thanks to Bangor District for the pictures DRUMCREE 2004
